News (nov 14, 2013):
Swedish characters (ÅÄÖåäö) now work again. Had some trouble with that before, after moving bandplanner to a new host.

Questions & answers

What is this?

This is a service that makes life easier for bands that don't have a fixed rehearsal schedule. Finding suitable rehearsal dates is a pain and usually involves lots of emails and maybe even excel sheets being sent back and forth before finding days that suit everyone.

How does it work?

First you define a band using "New Band" above. Set a password if you like. After that, ask each band member to log in enter their rehearsal preferences. Each band member marks each day as either green, yellow, or red. This will then be combined to show the best rehearsal dates for the whole band.

You can also divide your band into sections such as "horns", "vocals", etc. Even if the whole band can't rehearse on a particular day, maybe the horns section can. This feature lets you identify such days.

Can't this be used for other stuff than bands?

Yeah, it can be used for pretty much any kind of interest group that meets at irregular intervals. Feel free to use it for your poker club, theatre group, or whatever. However the service is primarly designed for bands, I chose this to keep the scope limited.

Why should I use this simple service instead of more advanced stuff like outlook?

This service is very easy to use. You don't have to install anything and band members don't need to have any particular network or operating system. Furthermore, the band planner supports "yellow" days, i.e. days that work but aren't so convenient. This type of feature is missing in most scheduling systems that I have seen.

Who created the band planner and why?

I (Henrik Kniberg) created the service because I needed it myself and figured that others probably do too. It felt like a waste to put the effort into building it and then only using it for my own bands.

Is it free?

Yes. However if it becomes popular enough to start causing a maintainance burden or traffic costs then I might start charging a minor fee.

I have feedback, how do I get in touch with you?
